Air-Fried Bang Bang Cauliflower

This year's Super Bowl will be very different, since Julian and I won't be watching it with all of our friends.  However, that does not mean we are going to skip the snacks!  Sometimes I feel like the food is just as important as the game itself.

I am excited to share this delicious and much healthier snack that you can make on game day!  These cauliflower bites are delicious and are not deep fried.  This makes them way healthier for you and reduces the calories in them dramatically.

I got an air-fryer for Christmas this year, and I have been loving it so far!  It is a very handy kitchen gadget that I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys cooking.  I recommend this model of air-fryer, which is the one I have.  While it is a splurge item, you will use it so frequently that it will be worth it!

How to Make Air-Fried Bang Bang Cauliflower

While the full recipe instructions are available below, here are some tips to make this healthy Super Bowl snack!

  • First of all, you need to cut and core your cauliflower.  You want to cut it into small, bite-sized florets that are all roughly the same size.  This is important because the pieces need to be the same size to cook at the same time.
  • Next, we will coat the florets in an egg mixture and cornstarch.  Now, we will spray the coated florets with oil.  You can use either olive or avocado oil.  I recommend using a spray bottle that doesn't use harsh chemicals to achieve a spray.  I love using my Misto sprayers for this!
  • Finally, we will cook the florets in the air-fryer, tossing half way through.  Then we will toss the cooked florets in our lightened up bang bang sauce and top with scallions.  Enjoy!

Ingredients

For the Cauliflower:

  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sweet Thai chili sauce
  • 1 tsp sriracha sauce
  • green onions, sliced, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Beat the eggs and egg white together in a mixing bowl.  In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, and salt.  Toss the cauliflower in the egg mixture to coat well.  Then toss the egg coated cauliflower in the flour and cornstarch mixture.  Spray the coated cauliflower with the olive oil or toss it in a large mixing bowl to coat all of the florets.
  2. Spread the florets in an even layer in the air-fryer basket.  Air-fry at 350F for 12 minutes, tossing part way.  You may need to do this in batches.  Keep an eye on the cauliflower as it cooks, since different air-fryer machines may take a different amount of time.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Thai chili sauce, and sriracha until well combined.  In a large mixing bowl, toss the sauce with the cooked cauliflower florets.  Top with sliced green onion and serve.
