What is Remoulade Sauce?

Louisiana-style remoulade is a creamy sauce that finds its roots in Cajun cuisine from the Southern United States. It is enjoyed as a condiment for many traditional dishes from the South, including fried fish, fried dill pickles, po'boy sandwiches, fried green tomatoes - and obviously - Maryland crab cakes! In Denmark, they even put this sauce on their hot dogs and French fries! It is one of the best sauces for how versatile it is. It brings in such amazing flavor from the creole seasoning but is balanced out so well with the mayonnaise base.

It is not surprising that this French sauce made its way to the Cajun kitchens of Louisiana, as there is a lot of French influence in the region. This is especially try of the cuisine in the area, and remoulade over crab cakes is definitely a Southern classic!

I have a special place in my heart for Louisiana-style cooking, as I have had my own experiences exploring the cuisine of New Orleans when I travelled there in 2018. I got to experience first hand this perfect condiment on the most incredible po'boy sandwich on a post Bourbon street hungover brunch. Louisiana remoulade sauce is by far the perfect seafood seasoning when eating in the South.
